Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant for our back office operations. This role requires proficiency in EMR systems to update patient records, updating and providing patients with information on treatments, medications, and post-procedure care, and collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient office operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient examinations, take vital signs, and prepare patients for procedures.
- Log medications, reconcile with pharmacies for medications, and update the computer system for MRI, CAT scans, and other requests.
- Prepare patient charts ahead of scheduled appointments and confirm missing patient forms for pre-visit preparation.
- Handle calls for scheduling and rescheduling appointments, supporting the call center as needed.
- Support file management between offices by using the fax machine to add files to patient records.
- Schedule appointments face-to-face with patients as they leave their previous appointment.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and collect copayments.
- Maintain and update patient records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
- Process insurance claims, create invoices, and manage patient billing.
Essential Skills
- Experience with EMR systems
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Knowledge of medical assisting and insurance processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred but not required; expired certifications will be considered.
- Experience in insurance knowledge from previous roles is a plus.
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with shifts from 7:30 AM to 4 PM or 9 AM to 5 PM. One evening shift per week is expected, from 12 PM to 8 PM, scheduled in advance. Candidates will work one weekend approximately once a quarter. This role covers multiple sites, including Randolph, Sparta, Hackettstown, Morristown, and Cedar Knolls. The position requires 40 hours per week, with flexibility to stay until the last patient leaves. The role involves face-to-face interaction with 20-40 patients a day, depending on provider rotation.
