Job Title: Utility Designer
Summary
The Utility Designer is responsible for performing design work for electric and/or gas new construction, capital maintenance, or system improvements. This includes project initiation, preparation of new improvement designs, cost estimates, and contracts. The role requires establishing project-specific business relationships and guiding customers through the company's New Business Process. The focus is on identifying customer needs for new business utility design for electric and/or gas projects, maintaining a working knowledge of company standards, tariffs, and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Use computer-aided drafting skills to prepare sketches, diagrams, single line job drawings, and job maps.
- Interpret and map verbal and written instructions, rough sketches, and data collected by Engineers, Planners, Estimators, or Surveyors.
- Consult standard maps of cities, subdivision plats, railroads, and highways to prepare new maps for plotting distribution lines and facilities.
- Reproduce and revise maps as changes occur, maintaining up-to-date distribution maps of Electric and Gas systems.
- Prepare base maps for job drawings from provided data.
- Operate and maintain printers, plotters, copy machines, and perform miscellaneous minor maintenance.
- Assist in reducing field survey notes and field checking occasionally.
- Make mechanical and architectural drawings as required.
- Perform clerical work related to the Distribution Design Department.
Required Qualifications
- 2-7 years experience with CAD drafting or design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of drafting and design.
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles.
- Experience with distribution design and power distribution.
- Familiarity with construction estimation and utilities.
