Job Summary

The Sr Technology Engineer - Disaster Recovery Specialist is a direct report to the Technology Group Product Manager with understanding of business goals, business processes, technology expertise in planning and developing disaster recovery solutions, design and implementation.

This role is involved in the full Disaster Recovery life cycle and responsible for planning, testing oversight, and governance. DR Specialist works closely with IT SMEs, Product Managers & Business Teams to understand the business requirements that drive the design of disaster recovery solution.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing all activities related to disaster recovery program, to ensure that PSEG LI is able to recover their IT systems in the event of a disaster and perform DR testing exercises.
  • Planning, design, documentation and testing of disaster recovery solutions to meet business or technology requirements.
  • Evaluation of existing technology solutions to determine fit for purpose for the new business or technology requirements. Recommendation of technology alternatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise in disaster recovery methodologies, including backup and recovery solutions, data replication, failover/failback procedures, and recovery testing.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of IT disaster recovery projects, including risk assessments, impact analyses, and recovery plan development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of disaster recovery plans, procedures, and test results. Prepare and present reports to senior management and stakeholders on the status of DR initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of IT disaster recovery processes and technologies.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive IT Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) & Disaster Recovery Test Plan (DRT) aligned with business recovery requirements.
  • Partner with leadership, subject matter experts, and management to develop detailed and comprehensive disaster recovery plans for each required application.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies related to IT disaster recovery and business continuity.
  • Evaluates existing technology solutions and platforms and provides recommendations for improving recovery strategies by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of needed modifications.
  • Review the existing IT disaster recovery architecture/design and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage IT DR test calendar and conduct regular tests of IT systems and applications.
  • Schedule and lead all DR exercises. Complete required Documentation pre/post DR exercises.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors to align DR initiatives with business objectives and ensure buy-in at all levels.
  • Manage recovery plans, application testing, documentation & reporting.
  • Ensure recovery design meets all requirements
  • Assess resilience of third-party providers.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in IT disaster recovery, with a proven track record of managing complex DR projects in on premise and cloud data centers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
  • Strong track record of translating business outcomes, business requirements and technical requirements into technical designs for new technology solutions or enhancements Good track record of implementing technology solutions using structured methodologies such as agile (SCRUM, Kanban etc.) and waterfall.
  • In-depth knowledge of disaster recovery methodologies, technologies, and best practices, including backup and recovery solutions, data replication, and failover/failback procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity concepts: RTO, RPO, MTPD, BIA etc.
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and disaster recovery solutions, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with designing DR exercises to validate RTO and RPO.
  • Strong verbal written communication skills.
  • Ability to foster working relationships with the team, IT Management and Client departments.
  • Understanding of technology architecture, technology platforms and ability to explain technical concepts to the business users in the context of business requirements.
  • Ability to define metrics that measure success of the recovery operations, in addressing business and technical requirements as well as achieving the desired outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of specific area including business process configuration and execution for assigned domains.

Desired:

  • Graduate degree or MBA.
  • Experience with public cloud providers.
  • Experience with IT Service Management activities.
  • Understanding financial principles.
  • Relevant certifications such as EC-Council Disaster Recovery Professional (EDRP), CDRE - Certified Disaster Recovery Engineer, or Project Management Professional (PMP) are preferred.

As an employee of PSEG Long Island, you should be aware that during storm/outage restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and work extended hours beyond your regular work schedule. You may also be required to work on premise or in an alternate location as directed by the company.
