Job Title: Phlebotomist II
Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. This position requires a keen understanding of blood draws, specimen labeling, and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.
  • Record maintenance data and conduct decontamination procedures.
  • Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Ensure 100% accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper storage temperature and integrity.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings and answer telephone inquiries.
  • Read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification where required.
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Knowledge of different gauges and phlebotomy techniques.
  • Ability to enter data correctly in different EMR systems.
  • Excellent customer service skills due to high volume of patients.
  • Specimen collection and venipuncture proficiency.
Work Environment

This position operates in a fast-paced environment similar to an ER, handling over 100 patients daily. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM, with every other Saturday from 7 AM to 11 AM. The role is based in locations such as Clifton Park and Albany, NY.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clifton Park, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
