Job Description
We are seeking a skilled phlebotomist with over two years of recent experience in phlebotomy. The ideal candidate will possess strong straight needle skills, be reliable, punctual, and have excellent communication abilities. Familiarity with different color tubes and tests is an advantage.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, decontaminate, and update patient information.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples at the required temperature and in appropriate collection containers or tubes, ensuring accurate labeling and following protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Experience in outpatient phlebotomy
- Data entry skills
Work Environment
The position is based at a Patient Service Center in Jackson Heights, Queens. The schedule is Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, with rotating Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm. The role requires adherence to protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens, and the work is performed in a fast-paced setting.
