HYBRID: Payroll Specialist


Job Description

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the accurate processing and recording of the company's payroll. This role involves providing timely and accurate financial information and participating in daily data entry for payroll processing, as well as meeting month-end and quarter-end financial deadlines.


Responsibilities

  • Process weekly and biweekly payroll, including Austin Lane timesheet uploads into JDE.
  • Coordinate with local and field offices for approvals and edit corrections.
  • Audit and review new hires, terminations, employee changes, and tax set-up to ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • Perform JDE calculations for gross to net payroll, create journal entries, and transmit wage payments and ACH bank files.
  • Set up Union and Rate configurations by reviewing Collective Bargaining Agreements and updating JDE tables as applicable.
  • Coordinate with local offices, project managers, and the legal department to collect missing data.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with union payroll and garnishments.
  • Proficiency in multi-state payroll processing.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and vlookups.
  • A minimum of 3 years of payroll experience.
  • Experience processing payroll for 100 or more employees.
  • At least 6 months of union payroll experience.
  • At least 6 months of construction industry experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with JDEdwards.
  • Transit payroll experience.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax and reconciliation.
  • Experience assisting with payroll-related audits.

Work Environment

The role is based within a construction and maintenance company that collaborates with the LIRR. The position is located in a corporate shared services environment in Farmingdale, comprising around 50 employees. The work environment is somewhat outdated but is known for its laid-back and friendly atmosphere. Employees are encouraged to have fun while working. The department reports to the Payroll Director and includes nine other team members.
