Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and certified Construction Safety Engineer to join our team, overseeing site safety for a large project in upstate New York. The ideal candidate should be familiar with all aspects of general construction and experienced in large-scale projects, coordinating safety with the Owner, General Contractor, and all Subcontractors on site. Excellent communication and written skills are required, along with three plus years of safety management experience and current certifications.
Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and ensure compliance with safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other professionals to develop project plans and specifications.
- Implement Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) protocols to promote a safe working environment.
- Oversee risk management processes to identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant building codes.
- Prepare reports on project status, including any issues or delays that may arise during construction.
Essential Skills
- Certified Safety Professional certificate or equivalent construction safety experience.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards, including OSHA 30, OSHA 40, and preferably OSHA 500.
- Proficient in construction safety and health management.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with underwater safety measures.
- Strong knowledge of construction management principles and practices.
- Familiarity with occupational health standards and compliance management.
- Proficient in risk management techniques applicable to construction projects.
- Ability to build strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
The position is for an onsite construction project in Massena, NY, involving heavy industrial and heavy civil concrete work. The work is part of the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project, a significant hydroelectric power plant spanning the U.S.-Canadian border. The project involves strengthening and stabilizing the Massena Canal Dam structure. The job includes working during a 3-4 year project with a seasonal layoff period of roughly 2 months each winter. The pay is based on the NYS Prevailing Wage Determination Sheet.
