Title: Director of New Business Development (Major Gifts & Corporate $25k+)

Job Description:

Race, income, language, and location often limit access to cancer care - The Director of New Business Development helps close these gaps by bringing in new funding to expand Financial Resource Center, which supports patients with essentials like food, housing, utilities, and transportation.

This role focuses entirely on acquiring new donors and corporate partners. The Director will build and execute a business development strategy to identify, qualify, and secure new major donors and partners at the $25,000+ level. It’s designed for a relationship driven fundraiser who excels at prospecting, pipeline building, and closing significant gifts.

Must Haves:

• 10+ years of major gifts experience

• Demonstrated success securing $500K+ in annual revenue

• Proven ability to acquire and manage 125+ new donors (high net worth individuals, corporate sponsors, foundations, grantmaking organizations, etc.)

• Experience securing multi year commitments

• Proficiency with Salesforce or a comparable CRM for tracking donor pipelines, forecasting, and moves management.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 10+ years of frontline major gifts experience or equivalent revenue responsibility.

• Proven success closing gifts of $100,000+.

• Sales experience a plus.

• Strong donor strategy, relationship management, and solicitation skills.

• High degree of accountability, organization, and follow through.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a mission driven environment.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with sr leadership.

• Solutions oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

• Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM to track donor pipelines.

Key Responsibilities:

Prospect Development, Pipeline & Revenue Strategy

• Identify, research, and qualify new major gift prospects through referrals, collaboration, and proactive outreach.

• Build, manage, and grow a portfolio of approximately 100–125 qualified major gift donors and prospects.

• Advance donors through the full pipeline—from qualification and cultivation to solicitation, stewardship, and renewal.

• Maintain individualized donor strategies for a self built portfolio.

• Achieve an annual major gifts revenue goal of $500,000, securing gifts ranging from $25K to $3M, with an emphasis on multi year commitments.

Donor Engagement, Solicitation & Stewardship

• Lead all aspects of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

• Develop and present customized proposals aligned with strategic priorities in partnership with Programs and Operations leadership.

• Partner with sr leadership and Board members on strategic donor engagement and solicitation efforts.

• Ensure timely, personalized stewardship, including impact reporting and regular acknowledgments.

• Build and maintain strong donor trust through proactive, relationship centered communication.

• Monitor donor retention, upgrades, and reactivation within the assigned portfolio.

• Translate program outcomes and financial needs into compelling donor stories and impact reports.

Collaboration, Reporting & Systems

• Collaborate closely with the Sr. Director of Operations, VP of Programs, and CEO on high level donor strategy, forecasting, and planning.

• Prepare sr leadership and Board members for donor engagements through briefings and talking points.

• Maintain accurate donor records, strategies, and moves management in Salesforce.

• Provide regular pipeline reports, revenue forecasts, and activity summaries.

• Use data and performance metrics to inform strategy and prioritization.

Screening questions:

• How will the candidate identify, engage, and convert 50–100 new major donors, including specific prospecting strategies and outreach approaches

• Discuss experience (or approach) in sales will allow them to be successful in the cancer space – how they would translate our work into compelling, resonant messaging for donor

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
