The primary responsibility of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshoot, provide training, and offer workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and standards.
Responsibilities- Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.
- Record maintenance data and carry out decontamination processes.
- Update patient information efficiently and accurately.
- Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Understand and execute all physician orders correctly.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are checked against scripts for 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport, ensuring they are stored at the required temperature.
- Place samples in appropriate collection containers, accurately label, and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department training sessions.
- Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Experience in troubleshooting and providing workflow recommendations.
The role is based in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting, requiring adherence to strict procedures and regulations. The environment demands a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, with a focus on maintaining the integrity of specimens during collection and transport.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Oneida, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
