Job Description
We are seeking skilled histotechnologists to join our growing lab on Long Island, focusing primarily on pathology. We offer four openings with flexible shifts, allowing candidates to choose from 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts and determine their start time. Training will be conducted over 1-2 weeks, Monday through Friday, on the candidate's chosen shift alongside the department manager.
Responsibilities
- Cut, stain, mount, and study human tissue specimens to provide data on tissue and organ functions, as well as the cause or progress of diseases, following standards and practices.
- Conduct quality control and instrument check procedures, documenting all related records.
- Prepare and manage paraffin, reagents, and solutions based on standard formulas.
- Process human tissue specimens by cutting, staining, and mounting.
- Handle stat specimens with care and precision.
- Engage in the department's QA/PI program, enhancing performance through quality improvement activities.
- Participate in Strategic Improvement Process activities and committee memberships as appropriate.
- Collaborate effectively with peers, physicians, and healthcare team members.
- Assume the role of Clinical Supervisor when needed.
- Manage equipment and supplies, ordering when low or near expiration.
- Perform preventive maintenance on image analyzers and slide makers, ensuring no use of expired reagents.
- Maintain ongoing records, files, and reports, contributing to test script development and system testing.
- Prepare required written documentation for professional and departmental purposes.
Essential Skills
- Current NY State license as a Histology Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
- Proficiency in specimen processing, data entry, laboratory operations, biology, and accessioning.
- Experience with histology, pathology, tissue samples, sample preparation, tissue culture, and lab testing.

The lab is staffed with approximately 70 employees and is equipped with up-to-date technology.
