Senior Cost Accountant

Job Description

The Senior Cost Accountant plays a crucial role in planning, studying, collecting, and entering data into the QVI Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) database. This position determines costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory, overhead, and labor costs. Additionally, the Senior Cost Accountant analyzes actual manufacturing costs, prepares periodic variance reports, and is involved in the accounting of fixed assets, the duty drawback program, and the preparation of standard monthly reports and metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the item cost data within the Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI) ERP software system.
  • Update items after initial setup to establish cost estimates for new or special products, aiding in setting selling prices and production forecasts.
  • Maintain cost changes on all items.
  • Compile routine parts manufacturing costs for inventory accountability, distribution of factory labor, verification of actual costs, and computation of variances.
  • Enter department labor and overhead rates annually in conjunction with the biannual cost roll, upon approval by CFO.
  • Maintain item product codes and associated markups for transfer and selling prices in QVI and all selling sites of CSI.
  • Interface with Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Engineering Departments to establish achievable standard costs by reviewing vendor quote information and labor times and materials entered into Bills of Manufacture.
  • Assist in month-end closing, prepare necessary journal entries, analyze inventory valuation, and conduct inventory roll forward.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for all fixed asset accounts, maintain fixed asset entries, and manage company-wide depreciation expenses.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing departments to prepare and maintain Cost Accounting work instructions, ensuring updates in the Document Management System as per ISO 9001 regulations.
  • Coordinate with the IT department for system issues and maintenance. Analyze cost accounting data and interface with purchasing on monthly reviews of purchase price variance activity and make versus buy decisions.
  • Maintain internal control documentation and test internal controls.
  • Review and analyze inventory and margin reports, conduct research, and perform analytical studies regarding cost analyses and profitability.
  • Ensure timely submission, accuracy, and validity of inventory and gross margin schedules to management.
  • Serve as a key resource for the duty drawback project, recouping duty and tariff costs for purchased parts included in machines sold outside the country.
  • Work with manufacturing, engineering, and R&D personnel to capture all prototype costs and record them as R&D expenses, relieving manufacturing overhead of such costs.
  • Perform ad hoc analyses and other tasks requested by management.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing background.
  • Proficiency in CloudSuite version 9.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in accounting preferred.
  • Planning and buying experience in a manufacturing setting is desirable.
  • Technical skills in accounting, reconciliation of cost analysis, and big data analytics.
  • Strong CSI, ERP system experience.
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects.
  • Problem analysis and resolution with attention to detail.
  • Strong team player.
