Akron Children's invites you to join our 2026 Summer Nurse Technician Program, a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced registered nurses and gain invaluable skills while caring for pediatric patients. This program fosters immersion in Akron Children's culture and aims to inspire participants to pursue RN positions upon graduation.

Unit Overview: Acute Care
The Acute Care units provide inpatient hospital care for children with a wide range of general medical and surgical needs. Patients may require short-term hospitalization, ongoing monitoring, or post-operative recovery. Acute Care nurses focus on coordinated, family-centered care while managing diverse diagnoses and supporting smooth transitions throughout the hospital stay.

Start Dates: May and June 2026

Summary:

The Nurse Technician I assists in patient/family education and in the delivery of individual care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Responsibilities:

1. Assists in delivering individual care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
2. Assists in patient/family education capabilities and under the direction of a licensed nurse.
3. Contributes to the assessment of individual patient care.
4. Contributes to the delivery of patient care.
5. Participates in the educational efforts of the department and the nursing unit.
6. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age and developmental status.
7. Other duties as required.

Education and Experience

  1. Education: Must currently be enrolled in a baccalaureate accredited registered nursing program as a junior or senior or enrolled in the second year of an accredited associate degree in nursing program.
  2. Certification: Current Health Care Provider BLS training from the American Heart Association is required.
  3. Years of relevant experience: None required; some healthcare experience is preferred.
  4. Years of experience supervising: None
