Job Title: Quality Control Chemist

Pay: $62k+

Shift: 3pm-11pm


Job Description

The principal focus of this position is to test raw materials, intermediates, and finished products to determine if they meet specifications. The role involves method development, instrument optimization, troubleshooting, and statistical monitoring of method performance. You will use analytical results to guide the production and packaging of hydrochloric acid, and documentation of work is required to meet customer and regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Determine if tankage is acceptable for packaging based on HCl analytical results for specific customer orders.
  • Enter production movements of hydrochloric acid in SAP.
  • Consistently work safely and responsibly, using designated personal protective equipment.
  • Perform laboratory testing of raw materials to confirm suitability for production.
  • Test intermediate product samples to ensure they are suitable for further processing.
  • Test finished products against quality control specifications to ensure they meet agreed Sales Specifications and maintain high quality.
  • Accurately report laboratory test results to generate completed Certificates of Analysis.
  • Prepare Certificates of Analysis with precision.
  • Record and maintain accurate and complete records of test results, calculations, and data following ISO 9001 procedures and Quality Assurance System.
  • Manage and store manufactured product and raw material retain samples in compliance with ISO 9001 procedures and Laboratory Quality Assurance.
  • Identify specification anomalies in manufactured products and raw materials and report to Supervisor for corrective actions.
  • Maintain high standards of laboratory cleanliness and tidiness according to good housekeeping guidelines.
  • Actively contribute to the daily function of the laboratory service by preparing shared consumables and ensuring instruments and equipment are clean for the next use.
  • Maintain stocks of laboratory reagents and consumables to prevent delays in quality control testing and product dispatch.
  • Develop methods of analysis as required by the lab manager, including gauge R&R, instrument optimization, validation, and statistical long-term stability monitoring.
  • Primarily operate during second shift hours.

Essential Skills

  • Quality control expertise
  • Strong background in chemistry
  • Experience with HPLC
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques
  • Analytical chemistry skills
  • Wet chemistry techniques
  • Ability to work second shift with minimal supervision
  • Experience in various wet chemical techniques
  • Competence in statistical analysis
  • Elemental analysis using ICP, ICPMS, or XRF instruments
  • Three years of laboratory experience

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry
  • 3+ years of laboratory experience
  • Problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience using ICP for trace metals analysis
  • Preferred experience in wet chemistry, pH measurements, FTIR, X-Ray spectrometer, and auto titrations
  • Commitment to documenting testing via established forms, paperwork, and computer data entry
  • Willingness to follow established procedures and work within cGMP, FDA, and ISO 9001 environments
  • Ability to plan daily/weekly workload and function independently
  • Must pass a Department of Homeland Security background check, pre-placement physical, and pre-employment drug screen
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional laboratory environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Some work requires exposure to loud noises or fumes in the plant facility. The physical demands include occasionally sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
