REPORTS TO: SERVICE MANAGER PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: A technician is generally responsible for installing, set-up and adjustment, repairing and/or replacing, and programming, fire alarm, special hazards suppression, access control/intrusion, closed circuit television, as well as other electronic equipment systems and related equipment. A technician will also maintain, inspect, and test such systems as required and document activities as required. A senior level technician must have at least 5 years experience, perform all functions of a technician, and obtain/maintain the one of the following: 1. NICET III or higher certification in fire alarm, special hazard systems, or CCTV. 2. Hold and maintain current factory certifications and demonstrate proficiency in the highest level (ie: master certification) for at least two major manufacturer’s premium product lines. A senior technician may specialize in fire alarm, special hazards suppression, access control/intrusion, or closed circuit surveillance television. Or, a senior technician may hold expertise and certifications in two or more of the aforementioned areas. Senior technicians shall be able to competently train and teach system administrators and users for the systems they provide. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Must be able to complete timely reports and necessary customer documentation • Analyze blue prints, schematics, drawings, and manufacturer’s installation and operation manuals and/or other related documentation for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems. • Must be proficient in IP based software and network systems. • Use computer laptop and specialized interface and/or programming software to program and set-up, intrusion, access, special hazard suppression, CCTV, nurse call, or sound systems and associated devices. Obtain and maintain manufacturer factory certifications pertaining to systems they service and provide. • Oversee and supervise other IPS technicians when more than one person is required on a project. • Oversee and supervise the installation work of IPS sub-contractors to assure that the projects are satisfactory completed to IPS quality standards as well as required state and local codes, regulations, and project specifications. • Troubleshooting - Diagnose causes of system problems or failures in systems and identify equipment and/or systems requiring repair • Perform regular system inspections including evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs, and recommending preventative maintenance. • Oversee and/or install project specific cabling and raceways per specifications and applicable building, electrical, and fire codes. • Must be able to “fish” covered walls and ceilings. • Must be able to properly install up to 1” EMT and PVC conduit for basic applications • Maintain assigned vehicle, tools, and test equipment • Follow company mandated safety policies • Must provide accurate and timely paperwork processing. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: • Must be a high school graduate. • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license. • Undergo background check. • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity and honesty. • Must have a demeanor to tolerate a variety of customer personalities. • Must demonstrate excellent people skills. • Must demonstrate excellent organizations skills • Must demonstrate a sense of urgency. • Must be detail oriented. • Must be goal oriented. • Must demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communications skills. • Must be self-motivated; able to perform work with little supervision. • Must be able to direct and supervise others. • Possess good math, language, and reading skills. Must fluently speak, read, and legibly write in English. • Must have advanced computer skills – must be able to navigate company software, enter data, and send communication. Full knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
