Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Welder/Fitter responsible for reading blueprints and accurately fitting metal components into position before welding them using MIG or TIG processes. This role involves surface preparation, precise measurement, and alignment of parts, along with operating fabrication tools such as grinders and torches, all while upholding stringent safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare work for welding and assembly by reviewing assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, and material lists; gather required materials and tools.
- Lay out parts and subassemblies by interpreting measurements and drawings to ensure proper fit.
- Assemble materials by tack welding components to ensure correct alignment and fit.
- Verify specifications by measuring completed assemblies to confirm accuracy and compliance.
- Resolve assembly issues by communicating with supervisors to obtain additional resources or clarification and adjusting dimensions as approved to meet specifications.
- Complete welding operations using appropriate welding, tack welding, and other required welding procedures.
- Demonstrate technical knowledge of welding processes, materials, and equipment through prior experience, adherence to company welding standards, and on-the-job training.
- Operate material handling equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety guidelines.
- Maintain adequate welding supply inventory by monitoring usage and reporting anticipated needs to supervision.
- Promote a safe and organized work environment by following all safety regulations and maintaining a clean work area.
- Support team objectives by performing additional duties as assigned, working collaboratively and respectfully with team members, and being available for overtime as needed.
- Proficiency in fabrication and fitting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Strong shop math skills, including measuring and calculating dimensions.
- Successful completion of a Tape Measure Test.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in fitting and welding processes.
- Manual dexterity for handling materials, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to stand and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Capability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing setting with ongoing exposure to the shop floor. The first shift operates from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, while the second shift consists of four ten-hour shifts from 4:00 PM to 2:30 AM. The team includes 58 welders on the first shift and 8 welders on the second shift, with plans to add experienced fitters. Safety compliance, quality of workmanship, productivity, and efficiency are key performance metrics.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kent, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00/hr.
