Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
The Mechanical Design Engineer will design and deliver large, automated ultrasonic cleaning systems that are built on proven platforms and then configured and customized to specific customer requirements. This role offers significant ownership across the full project lifecycle, from concept development and detailed design through to supporting build, test, and shipment. It is well suited for an engineer who enjoys technical depth, hands-on involvement with complex machinery, and seeing designs become fully functioning systems.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical assemblies, frames, tanks, enclosures, piping, pneumatic systems, and motion elements for automated ultrasonic cleaning systems.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models using SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD tools) and generate production-ready 2D drawings with appropriate GD&T.
- Develop, release, and maintain accurate mechanical Bills of Materials (BOMs), specifications, and supporting documentation for each project.
- Perform engineering analyses as needed, including stress analysis/FEA, basic thermal and flow analysis, tolerance stack-ups, and materials selection to ensure reliable and robust designs.
- Create and maintain Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and pneumatic schematics to support system documentation and build.
- Design with manufacturability in mind so that parts and assemblies can move efficiently into CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding processes.
- Collaborate closely with Electrical Engineers to ensure effective electromechanical integration and proper interfaces with controls and automation systems.
- Support production and assembly teams throughout the full build cycle by answering questions, resolving design issues, and implementing improvements.
- Manage workload across multiple active projects with competing priorities, maintaining organized documentation and keeping all project deliverables on track and up to date.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- At least 3 years of mechanical design experience focused on capital equipment or machinery.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks experience preferred.
- Hands-on experience creating and interpreting GD&T and performing tolerance stack-ups on detailed drawings.
- Experience working in a design-to-manufacture environment, including exposure to CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding/fabrication processes.
- Experience working with fluid system components such as pumps, valves, heaters, motors, bearings, and cylinders.
- Ability to perform fundamental engineering analyses, including stress/FEA, thermal/flow considerations, and materials selection.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Experience creating and maintaining P&IDs and pneumatic schematics.
- Experience with SolidWorks Simulation for FEA and exposure to basic flow/CFD analysis.
- equipment design, particularly custom or automated machinery.
- Comfort working closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical and controls engineering, production, and assembly.
Work Environment
This role is based on site and requires working in the office five days per week. The position is located in a modern, state-of-the-art facility that was recently built and houses a team of approximately 30 employees, fostering close collaboration and direct interaction with engineering, production, and assembly. The environment supports the full lifecycle of custom equipment design and build, including access to manufacturing partners for CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding. The setting is professional, engineering-focused, and project-driven, providing regular opportunities to see designs move from concept through assembly, testing, and shipment.
