Job Title: Microbiology Lab Technician
Job Description
The Microbiology Lab Technician is responsible for performing microbiological testing in compliance with internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). This role ensures the maintenance of the microbiology laboratory, its equipment, and testing methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Conduct aseptic microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products using USP agar methods in accordance with SOPs and GMP regulations.
- Handle live microbiological agents and cultures; perform growth promotion testing per USP and SOP requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and compliance of the Micro Lab per SOP standards.
- Collect and analyze environmental monitoring samples, including USP Purified Water, soft water, air, and equipment surfaces.
- Evaluate data for trends and contribute to the development and revision of SOPs and microbiological test methods.
- Complete administrative documentation and support lab investigations as needed.
- Review and approve laboratory data for accuracy and compliance.
- Calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation used in product testing.
- Assist with inventory management and ensure adequate lab supplies are maintained.
- Provide support to other QC personnel as needed.
- Participate in Out-of-Specification (OOS) investigations, deviations, and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs).
- Communicate effectively with other shifts regarding special testing requirements and relevant issues.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in microbiology, quality control, laboratory diagnosis, and raw materials testing.
- Experience with plating, streaking, petri dish techniques, microscopes, pour plate, and vacuum filtering.
- Strong understanding of scientific principles and logical problem-solving.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical data and SOPs.
- Excellent math and reasoning skills; detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with various microbiological testing apparatus.
- Proficiency in relevant computer software and laboratory systems.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
Work Environment
The work schedule is from 10:30pm to 6:30am, Sunday through Thursday, with one mandatory Saturday per month requiring a few hours in the morning. Overtime is provided for Saturday hours.
