Entry Level Designer

Job Description

The Distribution Designer/Drafter is responsible for performing detailed design work, including the preparation of drawings, specifications, and estimates for review and approval by the responsible engineer.


Responsibilities

  • Possess a thorough knowledge of practices and procedures in areas such as Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control, Protective Relaying, Transmission Design, Substation Design, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Distribution Engineering, Surveying, GIS and Mapping, and CADD.
  • Prepare manual or computer-assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors.
  • Perform design services requiring a full understanding of drawings, specifications, and industry and company standards.
  • Participate in the preparation of cost estimates, specifications, evaluations, and requisitions.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations.
  • Coordinate equipment deliveries and design development to meet project schedules.
  • Acquire on-site field data to accomplish the design or to monitor and evaluate equipment performance.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Design expertise in areas such as utility design and distribution design.
  • Proficiency in field data collection, GIS, distribution engineering, civil engineering, CAD, substation design, transmission design, mechanical design, surveying, protective relaying, and instrumentation controls.
  • An Associate Degree or equivalent in a technical field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required if no degree is held.
  • Demonstrated leadership and technical capability to perform job duties and responsibilities.


Work Environment

  • The role is primarily in-office with the opportunity for flexible hours once training is completed. There is also the possibility of working from home for two days a week, depending on the individual's training progress and at the discretion of management.
