Job Title: Technical Services Engineer


Job Description

The role of the Technical Services Engineer is to provide comprehensive service for all machines sold, including runoff, installation, customer training, warranty support, and additional support after the machine warranty expires both domestically and internationally.


Responsibilities

  • Installation and machine acceptance, customer training, repairs, maintenance, geometric alignment, software updates, and retrofits of Modul gear hobbing and deburring.
  • Interpretation of error messages and systematic troubleshooting and repair.
  • Customer contact and support via phone, email, and remote online communication to machine PC.
  • Project management for large-scale automotive installations.
  • Identification of spare parts through troubleshooting and inspection.
  • Cooperation in projects and technical support of the sales department.
  • Physical demands include bending, climbing, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Travel to customer sites to provide manufacturing support by troubleshooting and resolving complex technical problems.
  • Based at GM's plant in Toledo for the next two years, with limited travel outside this location, including potential travel to Europe for machine acceptance and training.

Essential Skills

  • Machine Installation - Critical for setting up and commissioning gear hobbing and deburring machines.
  • Mechanical Troubleshooting - Essential for diagnosing and resolving issues with mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • CNC Control Systems Proficiency (Siemens 840D and Fanuc) - Necessary for software updates, retrofits, and ensuring machines operate within required parameters.
  • Technical Communication & Customer Support - Important for training GM personnel, documenting issues, and providing remote or on-site support.
  • Gear manufacturing equipment experience.
  • PLC Programming, Siemens PLC knowledge.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Training as machine tool assembler and/or CNC Control Technician.
  • Knowledge of feed/speed rates, spindle speed, and machine parameters.
  • Ability to read mechanical, pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic prints.
  • Consumer and service-oriented understanding.
  • Ability to work systematically and independently.
  • Knowledge of spindle and axis drives on CNC machines.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associates Degree in mechanical or electrical field preferred.
  • Trade School or Vocational Training desired.
  • Gear Industry related experience or equivalent industry preferred.

Work Environment

Work on a team with two other Technical Service Engineers on-site at GM Toledo during first shift times. The GM Toledo plant is a high-volume manufacturing facility focused on transmission production for GM’s light-duty trucks. The environment is fast-paced and technically intensive, with a strong emphasis on precision, safety, and operational efficiency.
