Job Description
This is a safety-sensitive Test Engineer role responsible for establishing and executing test procedures for aircraft power generation equipment in a highly regulated aviation environment. You will support both engineering and production by developing, verifying, and validating tests for new and existing products, with a focus on hydraulic and AC oil-cooled systems. This is a 12‑month contract position, with flexible hours around a 7:00 am to 3:30 pm schedule and the potential to extend or transition to a direct role based on performance and business needs.
Responsibilities
- Establish detailed test procedures for aircraft power generation equipment, ensuring compliance with applicable aviation and military standards.
- Coordinate and perform testing activities for power generation equipment in support of engineering and production teams.
- Verify and validate new test methods and procedures to ensure reliability, repeatability, and regulatory compliance.
- Test new products and systems, including AC/DC power systems, avionics, and oil-cooled hydraulic systems.
- Develop and implement systems to gather, store, and analyze digital data during testing, including thermal, vibration, and electrical performance data.
- Set up, configure, and operate test cells and test chambers for hydraulic and AC electrical systems, including oil-cooled systems.
- Configure and monitor thermal testing, vibration and harshness testing, and temperature control setups as required by test plans.
- Perform instrumentation setup, including electrical and hydraulic instrumentation and calibration, to ensure accurate test measurements.
- Troubleshoot complex aviation power generation systems and test setups, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Apply knowledge of AC/DC motor control, power electronics, and circuit boards to support test execution and issue resolution.
- Interpret and apply relevant military standards, MIL-SPEC/MIL-STD, DoD requirements, and aviation regulations (including Part 145/121 repair station practices) in test planning and execution.
- Collaborate with product development, quality engineering, and research and development teams to support product qualification and validation activities.
- Document test procedures, results, and findings clearly and accurately for engineering review, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Support audits and inspections related to FAA and other regulatory requirements by maintaining organized and traceable test records.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of test methods, test fixtures, and data acquisition systems to enhance efficiency and quality.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 7+ years of testing experience in the aviation industry or a similarly highly regulated industry.
- Proven experience developing, qualifying, and testing products in a regulated environment.
- Strong background in troubleshooting complex aviation power generation systems.
- Hands-on experience setting up and operating test cells and test chambers for hydraulic or AC electrical systems.
- Experience with product testing and product development engineering in an aerospace or comparable environment.
- Knowledge of quality engineering principles as they relate to testing and validation.
- Experience with hydraulic systems, including hydraulic design, hydraulic modeling, and hydraulics maintenance.
- Working knowledge of AC/DC power systems and AC/DC motor control.
- Experience with oil-cooled hydraulic systems and associated test setups.
- Familiarity with avionics systems and aircraft power generation equipment.
- Ability to work with circuit boards and electronics in the context of testing and troubleshooting.
- Experience with instrumentation setup, electrical instrumentation, and instrumentation calibration.
- Understanding and application of military standards, MIL-SPEC/MIL-STD, and DoD-related requirements.
- Experience with vibration analysis, vibration and harshness testing, and thermal testing.
- Ability to develop and use digital data acquisition systems during testing.
- Knowledge of FAA-regulated environments such as Part 145/121 repair stations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret test data and provide clear technical documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a safety-sensitive role within a highly regulated aerospace environment.
