Job Title: Civil Designer
Job Description
The Civil Designer is responsible for developing and producing engineering specifications and cost estimates using various guidelines, handbooks, and standards. The role involves reviewing engineering plans to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, participating in construction planning by investigating proposed projects, and providing sketches and layouts for drawing preparations. The position also requires preparing modification/alteration design specifications and applying practical knowledge of engineering methods to ensure project requirements are complete.
Responsibilities
- Develop and produce engineering specifications and cost estimates using guides, handbooks, and standards.
- Review engineering plans and specifications for compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Participate in construction planning processes by obtaining field data and conceptualizing project scopes.
- Furnish sketches and layouts for drawing preparations.
- Prepare modification/alteration design specifications considering existing structures and utilities.
- Apply practical knowledge of engineering methods and historical project data.
- Provide code-compliant repair solutions for pavements, foundations, drainage, and infrastructure.
- Support project managers in the development of design details.
Essential Skills
- Experience in engineering, civil, construction, design.
- Professional Engineer certification or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in Civil Engineering Design, Roadway, Paving, Concrete Design.
- Competence in AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
- Knowledge in drainage, civil/structural engineering.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 10 or more years of experience in civil engineering, pavement, and earthwork construction planning.
- Knowledge of Department of Defense facilities design and construction.
- Familiarity with the Internal Building Code, NFPA Life Safety Code, and Unified Facilities Criteria.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule).
- Supervisory or lead experience with planning skills.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
Work Environment
The work environment requires lifting less than 50 pounds and the use of safety and protective clothing, gear, and equipment. It involves long periods of standing and walking over rough terrain, with recurring bending, crouching, stooping, and stretching. Exposure to dust, outdoor conditions including wind, rain, cold, and hot weather is expected. Work locations may include remote sites, and work hours may cover night shifts and/or weekends.
