Job Description
As a clinical pharmacist, you will interpret orders and accurately transcribe or verify them in the pharmacy computer system. You will be responsible for compounding and dispensing pharmaceuticals, monitoring drug therapy regimens, and providing medication information to healthcare staff and patients. Your role involves effective interaction with medical staff regarding drug therapy issues and accurate documentation of all clinical activities and interventions. You will sustain the hospital formulary, supervise pharmacy technicians, and participate in disaster team drills. Additionally, you will prioritize work and lead others to comply with medication turnaround policies, support staff development, and serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents.
Responsibilities
- Interpret orders and transcribe or verify them accurately in the pharmacy computer system.
- Accurately compound and dispense pharmaceuticals.
- Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose.
- Provide accurate and timely medication information to healthcare staff and patients.
- Interact proactively with medical staff regarding drug therapy issues.
- Document all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely.
- Sustain the hospital formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements and utilizing therapeutic interchanges.
- Supervise and assist pharmacy technicians and other support staff.
- Train and participate with Disaster Team drills and real-event response.
- Prioritize work and lead others to comply with medication turnaround policies.
- Actively participate in staff meetings and pharmaceutical care development.
- Support in the training and mentorship of new staff members.
- Serve as preceptor for pharmacy students and/or residents.
- Support and participate in the goals of quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety programs.
- Maintain professional competency sufficient to meet current and future needs of the facility.
- Maintain appropriate controlled substance records.
- Comply with all regulatory standards.
- Make appropriate evidence-based, patient-centered medication recommendations.
- Participate in the management of medical emergencies, including code blue.
- Provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners.
- Suggest appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff.
- Work with the Pharmacy Director or Operations Manager to meet regulatory standards and participate in audits.
Essential Skills
- B.S. or Pharm D. from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
- Active Pharmacist license in good standing with the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.
- 1 year of hospital pharmacy experience.
- BLS & ACLS certification.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy preferred.
- Experience in hospital pharmacy setting.
Work Environment
The position is based in a 656-bed hospital equipped with advanced technology for cancer treatment, burn care, women's health, rehabilitation, and heart institute services. Work hours are Monday to Friday, either from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM or 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
