Job Description
A national consulting firm is seeking a Senior Electrical or Mechanical Estimator to join its MEP Cost Management team. In this role, you support large, high‑impact construction programs across multiple market sectors and play a key part in conceptual and early‑phase estimating. You collaborate closely with project teams to shape budgets, influence cost decisions, and guide clients through complex scopes and evolving designs. This position offers remote flexibility within the United States, with a preference for professionals who can effectively collaborate with regional offices and project teams as needed.
Responsibilities
- Lead conceptual, schematic, and detailed cost estimates for electrical or mechanical (HVAC/process) scopes across multiple project phases.
- Support budget development, cost planning, feasibility studies, and value engineering activities for major construction projects.
- Perform QA/QC reviews on estimating deliverables and support workload planning and task management within the estimating team.
- Reconcile change orders, invoices, and cost impacts with general contractors, subcontractors, and third parties to ensure cost accuracy and transparency.
- Provide post‑contract cost support, including bid analysis, evaluation of proposals, and change management throughout project execution.
- Participate in risk and value management evaluations to identify cost drivers, savings opportunities, and potential project exposures.
- Mentor and support estimators and estimating technicians, strengthening their technical capabilities and adherence to estimating procedures.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships by providing clear communication, reliable cost guidance, and responsive support.
- Prepare client‑facing reports, milestone estimates, and executive‑ready summaries that clearly communicate cost assumptions and outcomes.
- Engage with internal stakeholders, including project controls teams and leadership, to ensure alignment on scope, budget, and schedule.
- Participate in peer reviews and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance estimating standards, tools, and best practices.
- Stay informed on local market conditions, construction trends, and industry best practices to keep cost data and assumptions current.
- Contribute to project management and construction management efforts by providing accurate cost information during planning and delivery.
- Support quantity surveying and cost consulting activities related to project budgets, commercial construction, and process‑related work.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical or mechanical (HVAC/process) estimating or cost management.
- Strong background in conceptual estimating and early project planning for construction projects.
- Deep technical understanding of electrical or mechanical scopes, systems, and construction methods.
- Proven experience supporting large, complex construction projects across multiple sectors.
- Ability to read and interpret construction schedules, drawings, and specifications.
- Advanced proficiency with cost estimating methods, tools, and modern estimating software.
- Strong Excel skills for detailed cost analysis, benchmarking, and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client‑facing and internal collaboration.
- Ability to analyze incomplete or evolving design information and provide clear, defensible cost guidance.
- Ability to perform at a high level in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
- Experience working as an estimator or cost consultant in MEP and commercial construction settings.
- Demonstrated capability in project management and construction management interfaces related to cost.
- Experience in MEP estimating, including electrical, HVAC, and process systems.
- background in quantity surveying or cost consulting for commercial construction projects.
- Familiarity with project controls practices and integration of cost data with project schedules and budgets.
- Comfort working on large, high‑impact construction programs across diverse market sectors.
- Ability to build strong relationships with regional teams, project stakeholders, and clients in a remote environment.
- Interest in continuous learning and professional development through ongoing education platforms.
- Motivation to contribute to a collaborative, growth‑oriented project and cost management consultancy.
This is a salaried, full‑time position designed around a 40‑hour work week that promotes work‑life balance. The role is fully remote within the United States and aligned to a regional team, with collaboration conducted through virtual meetings and digital project platforms. You work closely with regional offices, project controls teams, and multidisciplinary project stakeholders to support complex construction programs. The organization operates as a nationally recognized, top‑ranked project and cost management consultancy, offering a collaborative, professional environment where you can influence projects from early planning through delivery. The firm provides 80 hours of paid time off plus 8 paid holidays, along with access to medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, and additional discount programs. You also benefit from a structured 360‑degree review program and access to an online education platform after six months, supporting ongoing skills development and career growth.
