Job Title: Construction Project Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Construction Project Engineer to meticulously analyze site inspection information, blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation. The ideal candidate will possess a basic understanding of surveying practices and the accompanying equipment.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and conduct pre-construction surveys to identify potential risks and verify original site conditions.
- Attend pre-construction meetings and coordinate project schedules while monitoring overall construction progress.
- Review subcontract quotations with the project estimator and participate in subcontract negotiations and preparation.
- Work directly with subcontractors, monitor pay estimates and submittals, and review vendor/supplier quotations.
- Timely order contract materials, track delivery schedules, and maintain inventory of all delivered materials.
- Monitor all required submittals including certificates, shop drawings, catalog cuts, and samples. Ensure pay invoices are reviewed, cost-coded, approved, and submitted for payment.
- Assure that details and submittals are received, submitted, and processed, and supervise the submittal of control data.
- Maintain project files such as plans, specifications, budget information, schedules, correspondence, and design changes.
- Coordinate Quality Control testing and inspection by various agencies.
- Prepare, process, and submit project documentation such as RFIs, shop drawings, and notifications of changes to owners for approval.
- Maintain current RFI and Submittal Logs.
- Estimate, prepare, and submit Change Order requests to owners and negotiate Change Orders, including all associated costs.
- Oversee the implementation of safety plans, safety meetings, method statements, and safe working practices.
- Prepare and process all project closing documentation, including 'as-built' drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, final acceptance letters, and obtain lien releases from subcontractors and material suppliers.
Essential Skills
- Experience in construction management, site development, project scheduling, and heavy civil construction.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading, change orders, and construction documentation management.
- Experience with HCSS HeavyJob, HeavyBid, Vista, and MS Project or similar construction management software.
- Onsite construction experience is required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is strongly preferred, or equivalent field experience.
