Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist II to join our team at a leading medical center. This role requires certification in Washington State, as you will occasionally float to a nearby site. You will be responsible for collecting and processing specimens, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients upon arrival and explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process.
- Perform blood draws using straight and butterfly needles.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Ensure accurate matching of laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, attending annual department trainings.
- Handle insurance, billing, and process samples.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients and address inquiries.
- Washington State Certified Phlebotomist
- 6+ months of phlebotomy experience
- Proficiency with straight and butterfly needles
- Ability to handle difficult draws
- National Phlebotomy Certification (preferred)
- Experience with 20–50+ draws per shift in high-pressure environments
- Accuracy in handling and labeling specimens
- Ability to navigate EMR systems and troubleshoot technology issues
- High School Diploma or GED
- Patient-first mindset with the ability to ease patient anxiety
- Adaptability and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage workload independently
- Positive attitude, initiative, and effective collaboration
- Proven reliability and strong attendance record
- Flexibility to move between sites and adapt to trainer schedules
- Resilience under pressure
The position is based at a renowned medical center in Portland, OR. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:15 AM to 3:45 PM, with no weekend work required during the contract. Once permanent, weekend rotation may be required. The contract is initially for three months with possible extensions. The work environment is supportive with opportunities for growth and movement into different departments. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.11/hr.
