LABCORP @ PROVIDENCE GATEWAY/THE OREGON CLINIC (NE PDX) Phlebotomist will be responsible for greeting patients as they come into the lab, doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. Package specimens for transport. Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Phlebotomist is also responsible for prepping the site, handling insurance, billing and processing samples. Need to provide excellent customer service to patients.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. 6+ months of phlebotomy experience (proficiency with straight and butterfly needles; ability to handle difficult draws such as scar tissue, rolling veins, pediatric and geriatric patients). National Phlebotomy Certification (NHA, ASCP) or equivalent – preferred, not required. Previous success with 20–50+ draws per shift in high-pressure environments. Specimen handling and labeling accuracy. Ability to navigate EMR systems and troubleshoot technology issues. Experience quickly learning and troubleshooting different devices/systems (scanners, tablets, computers, EMRs, LIS). Patient-first mindset: compassionate, professional, able to ease patient anxiety and explain procedures clearly. Takes feedback well and demonstrates eagerness to learn. Adaptability and teamwork: works well in diverse teams and upholds Labcorp’s peer-auditing culture. Demonstrated ability to manage workload independently. Positive, hardworking, takes initiative, and collaborates effectively. Proven reliability and strong attendance record. Flexibility: willing to move between sites, adapt to trainer schedules, and handle staffing shortages. Resilience: stays productive under pressure and maintains professionalism.
