Job Description
The General Laborer supports a paint manufacturing facility by performing a wide range of hands-on tasks, including cleaning, material handling, basic production activities, and equipment operation. This role helps ensure smooth production flow, accurate labeling and documentation, and a clean, safe work environment across multiple areas such as tank washing, pre-kitting, material coordination, fill-off, batch making, and milling/grinding operations.
Responsibilities
- Clean totes, barrels, portable tanks, and related equipment using appropriate cleaning tools and chemicals.
- Operate an automated tank washer machine safely and according to established procedures.
- Print and apply labels accurately to containers, ensuring correct product identification and documentation.
- Move barrels, totes, and other containers throughout the facility using appropriate material-handling equipment.
- Perform general labor tasks to support production, including packing, assembly, cleaning, and general production work.
- Operate production assets safely while following all established operating procedures and safety guidelines.
- Perform daily production activities, basic preventative maintenance tasks, and process data collection as required.
- Report safety, quality, or operational issues promptly to the appropriate leadership personnel.
- Ensure production targets are met while maintaining required quality standards and product specifications.
- Issue Corrective Action Reports (CAR) or hazard reports when necessary to address safety or quality concerns.
- Provide progress updates on work activities and attend required meetings to support communication and coordination.
- Investigate health, safety, environmental (HSE), or quality issues as directed and participate in continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain organized storage of raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods in designated areas.
- Operate a forklift to move, load, and stage materials and assist in obtaining materials for production.
- Use pallet jacks and other material-handling tools to support efficient movement of goods.
- Ensure proper disposal or reconditioning of empty containers in accordance with facility procedures.
- Maintain storage of materials and assist fill-off operators with material supply and staging.
- Perform daily forklift inspections and document findings as required by site procedures.
- Transfer completed products into appropriate containers, ensuring accurate fills and secure closures.
- Measure and weigh products accurately, checking containers for leaks or other defects.
- Apply proper labels and complete batch tickets and related documentation before sending containers to shipping.
- Add raw materials to batches in the specified order and quantities, following batch instructions.
- Coordinate sample testing with Quality Control (QC) and adjust work based on QC feedback when directed.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in all work areas, keeping equipment and floors clean and organized.
- Assist in milling and grinding operations as needed, following all safety and operating procedures.
- Support other tasks and departments as needed to ensure smooth and efficient plant operations.
- Experience performing general labor tasks in environments such as manufacturing, construction, or production.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift in a production or warehouse environment.
- Experience using pallet jacks and other basic material-handling equipment.
- Comfort with frequent lifting and physical work in a manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with hand tools and power tools used in general labor and production work.
- Experience in manufacturing, packing, assembly, cleaning, or general production roles.
- Strong attention to detail when measuring, weighing, labeling, and documenting products.
- Ability to follow established safety procedures, work instructions, and production processes.
- Capability to identify and report safety, quality, or operational issues promptly.
- Experience working in a paint, chemical, or similar process manufacturing environment.
- Experience with basic preventative maintenance tasks on production equipment.
- Familiarity with completing batch tickets and production documentation.
- Ability to participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving activities.
- Comfort working with cleaning chemicals and automated cleaning equipment.
- Basic understanding of quality control processes and sample testing coordination.

Work Environment
This role is based in a paint manufacturing facility that operates with production equipment such as tank washers, milling and grinding machinery, forklifts, pallet jacks, and various hand and power tools. The work involves standing, walking, lifting, and moving materials throughout the shift in an industrial environment where cleanliness and housekeeping are important. Employees work around raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods, and may handle cleaning chemicals and other process materials while following safety procedures and wearing appropriate protective equipment as required by site policies.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Salem, OR.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.37 - $20.37/hr.
