Job Description
We are seeking a Phlebotomist II to join our team at a renowned healthcare facility in Tualatin, OR in an outpatient setting. This role involves a variety of responsibilities centered around patient interaction and specimen collection. As a Phlebotomist II, you will play a crucial role in the patient experience by ensuring a smooth and professional process for specimen collection and handling.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients as they arrive in the lab.
- Perform blood draws and properly label specimens.
- Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
- Update patient information and handle insurance billing.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Ensure test requisitions or computer labels are correct.
- Package specimens for transport while maintaining specimen integrity.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients.
Essential Skills
- Phlebotomy certification.
- Proficiency in drawing blood using various techniques.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Knowledge of venipuncture and blood collection methods.
- Experience with specimen processing and centrifuging.
- Understanding of medical terminology.
- Data entry skills.
- Experience in geriatrics.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience.
- Previous customer service experience in any setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to take feedback well and eagerness to learn.
- Patient-first mindset.
- Positive, hardworking personality with initiative.
- Proven reliability and positive attendance.
Work Environment
The work environment is dynamic and supportive, with a strong team culture. The position is based in Tualatin, OR. Contracts are initially slated for 3-6 months with the potential for extension, averaging 6-9 months. While there is an opportunity to transition into a direct role, this is dependent on business needs and performance. The role may occasionally require floating to nearby locations as needed, ensuring flexibility in work assignments.
