Environmental Technician


Job Description

This role requires expertise in NPDES and EPA permitting specifically for residential developments, with a strong focus on Pennsylvania and additional experience in Ohio being advantageous. The position involves understanding PADEP Chapter 102 and 105, Army Corp of Engineers 404 permitting requirements, and the process. The successful candidate will be skilled in wetland field determinations and categorization following USFW and USACE guidelines, stream identification and classification, stream restoration design, erosion and sedimentation management, and surface mining permits. Environmental compliance, inspections, biological assessments, and surveys are also key components.


Responsibilities

  • Split responsibilities between office and field work, approximately 50/50.
  • Support site/land development, municipal, and environmental projects.
  • Perform laboratory and field tests to monitor the environment and investigate pollution sources.
  • Inspect manholes and work in confined spaces to locate sewer line stoppages.
  • Conduct wetland delineation and environmental compliance assessments.
  • Perform biological assessments and consult on rare, threatened, and endangered species.
  • Identify invasive species and macroinvertebrates, and classify native plants.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in environmental science and fieldwork.
  • Proficiency in NPDES and EPA permitting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Biology.
  • 1-2 years of field experience with wetland delineation and construction.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance and inspection procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Pennsylvania and Ohio permitting processes is beneficial.
  • Ability to identify taxonomic groups of macroinvertebrates.
  • Experience with stream morphology and restoration design.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Work Environment

The role involves working with a teammate and requires traveling 50% of the time, while the remaining 50% is office-based. This position offers the opportunity to gain a foothold in a large civil engineering and environmental firm, with potential for growth and skill development.
