Job Description
The Sandblast Operator works as part of a small team in an enclosed blast room to prepare and finish metal parts using industrial sandblasting equipment. This role involves reading work orders and prints, safely handling and rigging heavy materials, operating sandblasting guns, and performing routine equipment maintenance and cleanup to ensure high-quality results and a safe, efficient operation.
Responsibilities
- Work in teams of 2–3 in the blast room to complete sandblasting operations according to production needs.
- Prepare metal parts for the blast room by following work orders and job specifications.
- Read and interpret prints to understand product requirements, surface preparation needs, and finishing standards.
- Handle materials ranging from 40 lbs to 1,000 lbs using overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
- Rig materials securely to ensure safe lifting, movement, and proper positioning for blasting.
- Operate industrial sandblasting guns to apply specific blasting media onto metal parts to achieve the required finish.
- Move parts in and out of the blast facility and perform visual inspections to verify quality and adherence to specifications.
- Perform basic maintenance on blast guns and related equipment to keep systems in good working condition.
- Clean and maintain the blast booth by sweeping and removing debris to keep the work area safe and organized.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe operation of cranes, forklifts, and blasting equipment.
- Support paint prep and related surface preparation tasks as needed to meet production schedules.
- Participate in training and upskilling opportunities to broaden blasting and industrial finishing capabilities.
- Direct sandblasting experience in an industrial environment is a major plus.
- Mechanical aptitude and a strong work ethic, with a willingness to learn and be trained.
- Ability and experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
- Ability and experience operating an overhead crane for safe lifting and movement of heavy parts.
- Rigging skills to safely secure and position materials weighing from 40 lbs up to 1,000 lbs.
- Ability to read and understand work orders and basic prints or drawings.
- Comfort working with industrial sandblasting equipment and related tools.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing for extended periods and handling heavy materials.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and consistently using required PPE.
- Experience with blasting, sandblasting, or industrial blasting processes.
- Background in paint prep, industrial painting, or use of industrial sprayers.
- Experience with sanding and other surface preparation methods.
- Previous work in a general manufacturing or metal finishing environment.
- Openness to cross-training and developing additional skills in industrial finishing.
- Flexibility to work different shifts and overtime as assigned.

Work Environment
The role is based in a general manufacturing plant that includes machinery, tanks for plating, and dedicated paint and blast booth areas. The sandblast booth is fully enclosed and requires full personal protective equipment, including a protective suit and a helmet with cool, fresh air supplied for comfort and safety. The facility uses forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment to move parts weighing from 40 lbs to 1,000 lbs. The environment is not climate controlled, and employees work as part of teams of three in the blast process. Schedules include a first shift (Monday–Friday, approximately 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m., with potential starts as early as 4:00 a.m.) and a second shift (Monday–Friday, approximately 2:00 p.m.–10:30–11:00 p.m.). Overtime may be assigned as needed, and initial training on the day shift for 1–2 weeks may be required.

This is a Contract position based out of East Berlin, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
