Job Title: Pharmacy Technician (Inpatient)
Job Description
A pharmacy technician assists pharmacists in various support activities and procedures involved in dispensing medical prescriptions. They gather, input, and double-check prescription, refill, and patient information, as well as receive and organize incoming supplies. Additionally, they might prepare labels and routine prepacked orders, and potentially handle certain clerical tasks related to the department.
Responsibilities
- Rotate through different stations of the pharmacy, including register, filling, input, insurance/prior authorizations, and call center (mail order).
- Interact comfortably with patients, dealing face-to-face with a diverse patient population including transplant, sickle cell, pediatrics, internal medicine, and employee medications.
- Handle a high volume of approximately 1200 scripts per day in one of the harder locations due to volume.
- Dispense compounds, although no compounding is required.
- Work closely with doctors and nurses within the hospital clinics, supporting various operations such as the OR, vaccine clinic, and mail order pharmacy.
Essential Skills
- Pharmacy technician certification
- Pharmacy technician license
- 1-2 years of pharmacy technician experience
- Inpatient experience
- Experience with inventory and data entry
- Understanding of insurance and prior authorizations
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- PTCB certification highly preferred, must be active after 6 months of employment.
- SC State license with Board of Pharmacy.
- Good communication and customer service skills are non-negotiable.
- Experience in customer service or waitressing is advantageous.
- Hardworking and able to take initiative.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a team.
Work Environment
The position is located within a hospital, operating in a fast-paced environment where technicians are on their feet all day. The team consists of 50 members, including pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and pharmacy technicians. Technicians must be comfortable interacting with patients face-to-face and will be trained on software such as Epic and Willow Ambulatory.
