Job Description
The SUE Technician II will proficiently operate survey equipment, assist the SUE Analyst in field operations, and complete various utility projects. The role involves working independently on project sites and potentially leading small crews. You will navigate diverse terrains and adverse conditions while ensuring accuracy and precision in utility locating tasks.
Responsibilities
- Operate survey equipment including total stations, GPS, and SUE locating tools.
- Assist in the operation of a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) field crew.
- Complete utility projects involving gas lines, cable lines, septic tank pipes, underground storage tanks, storm drains, and telecommunication lines.
- Work independently on project sites and lead small crews when necessary.
- Conduct fieldwork in diverse environments such as airports, railroads, construction sites, and industrial sites.
- Navigate various terrains and adverse conditions, including urban, suburban, rural locations, and challenging environmental factors.
- Develop and utilize technical skills with SUE field equipment including ground penetrating radar, electromagnetic designating equipment, sewer camera, probe rod, jackhammer, chop saw, pneumatic tampers, vacuum excavation equipment, and other geophysical tools.
- Interpret blueprints and use vacuum and utility locating techniques.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a SUE Technician.
- Proficiency in operating survey equipment including total stations and GPS.
- Ability to travel up to 50% within South Carolina and Georgia.
- Capability to lift 50 pounds and operate project equipment.
- Self-motivation with an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on airports, railroads, construction sites, and industrial sites is advantageous.
Work Environment
The work schedule is from 7 AM to 5 PM, with the possibility of overtime, averaging 50 hours per week. The role is based out of the Charleston, SC office, and involves occasional overnight travel. The employee will receive a company truck, gas card, and credit card for travel-related expenses. The work environment includes diverse terrains and challenging conditions, requiring adaptability and resilience.
