Data Center Technician
Location: Aiken, South Carolina
We are looking for a Data Center Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of data center equipment and cabling. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on technical experience or training who is eager to learn and grow in a data center environment. The technician will work alongside experienced team members to complete daily tasks while following safety, quality, and documentation standards.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture, and wall applications
- Terminate CAT 3 and CAT 5 jacks
- Mount faceplates and surface-mount boxes properly
- Adhere to established commercial labeling standards
- Build and prepare telecommunications closets, including:
- Mounting and installing backboards
- Installing cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic components, and hardware
- Installing grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling as required
- Completing all IDC connections, including termination of 110 and 66 blocks and patch panels
- Perform comprehensive cable testing and troubleshooting:
- Continuity testing of horizontal and riser cabling
- Use of volt-ohmmeter and tone sets
- Diagnose and correct opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs
- Identify active voice and data circuits
- Complete all required project documentation accurately and on time, including:
- Timesheets
- Material and tool transfers
- Work orders and change orders
- Follow and actively participate in all company, customer, and industry safety and quality standards
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Required Tools & Equipment
Technicians must have and be proficient with the following tools:
General Tools
- Flathead and Phillips screwdrivers
- Drywall saw
- Torpedo level
- Tape measure
- Snips (with belt sheath)
- Needle-nose pliers and channel locks
- Hammer
- Cable stripper
- Flashlight
- Gloves
Telecommunications Tools
- Punch tool with 110 and 66 block blades
- Tone set
- 6/8 position combo crimp tool
- Krone / 3M / BIX termination tools
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Trenton, SC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.
