Schedule: Tues - Friday 11:30pm-8:00am (last shift would end 8am on Saturday)
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Histology Technician to join our laboratory team. This role involves the preparation of tissue samples for examination by pathologists, playing a crucial part in the accurate diagnosis of diseases, including cancers. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in histology procedures and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of laboratory safety and precision.
Responsibilities
- Collect and prepare tissue samples from surgeries, biopsies, and autopsies.
- Embed tissues in paraffin wax for slicing.
- Use a microtome to cut extremely thin tissue sections.
- Mount tissue slides on glass for microscopic examination.
- Stain slides with chemicals, such as hematoxylin and eosin, to reveal cellular details.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and adhere to strict safety protocols.
- Collaborate closely with pathologists to interpret slides for accurate diagnoses.
Essential Skills
- Certificate or associate degree in histotechnology or a related laboratory field.
- HT (ASCP) certification is often required.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Comfortable working in a laboratory environment.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in histology, as the role requires independent work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- HT or HTL certification is preferred.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
