Job Title: Phlebotomist


Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist with experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination. The candidate will be responsible for updating patient information and ensuring the integrity of specimens collected and stored according to established procedures.


Responsibilities

  • Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
  • Explain the venipuncture blood drawing process and other specimen collections such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand and execute all physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
  • Place samples in the appropriate collection container/tube, label accurately, and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity for transport.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy experience
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Proficiency in blood drawing and venipuncture
  • Ability to process paperwork and test orders accurately
  • Strong customer service skills

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of drawing experience
  • Experience running drug screens, biometrics, and paternity tests

Work Environment

The position is located at a Patient Service Center, where the candidate will not only draw blood but also run drug screens, biometrics, and paternity tests. The work schedule is 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday, with a team of 2-3 colleagues.
