Job Title: Mechanical Designer

Job Description

Prepare detailed designs and simulations of unusual, complex, original designs to support a growing reverse logistics automation platform. Develop detailed designs and specifications for mechanical automation and robotics systems and controls, using SolidWorks. Coordinate with and consult other team members to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems. Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed. Ensure that anticipated problems in manufacture, assembly, installation, and operation are resolved by the design/drawings produced.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare budgetary estimates and third-party component selections to leadership to align cost expectations and budget allocation.
  • Select and recommend the correct components at or below budget requirements by understanding automated systems and the supplier network.
  • Serve as a mentor to entry-level engineering staff and demonstrate a willingness to learn from others.

Essential Skills

  • 5 years' experience utilizing SolidWorks for designing various custom automated test and assembly machines.
  • In-depth knowledge of sound mechanical design principles, shop practices, and automation and test components.
  • Intimate knowledge of SolidWorks or equivalent solid modeling software.
  • Basic understanding of controls engineering and project planning.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the automotive, consumer product, and medical device industries using a wide variety of automation platforms.
  • Knowledge of design techniques and automation techniques.
  • Ability and desire to participate in creating effective and realistic project plans.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an office setting, with occasional work in a warehouse when dealing with prototype equipment. The role requires working five days a week in the office. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is not required at this site, as there is no manufacturing happening, only processing.

This is a Contract position based out of Mt. Juliet, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $52.88/hr.
