Distribution Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a Distribution Technician to assist in the acquisition of field data and the gathering of information from field notes. The ideal candidate will follow the Code of Safe Practices as outlined in the company safety policies and keep supervisors and coworkers informed. This role requires the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with all levels within the organization and with outside clients and agencies. You will be responsible for preparing and submitting required reports and correspondence and designing and preparing construction orders related to overhead and underground facilities associated with electric distribution systems.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in the acquisition of field data.
  • Gather information from field notes.
  • Follow Code of Safe Practices as outlined in the company safety policies.
  • Keep supervisor and coworkers informed.
  • Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with all levels in the organization and with outside clients and agencies.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and correspondence.
  • Design and prepare construction orders for overhead and underground facilities associated with electric distribution systems.
  • Apply industry standards in preparing layouts of overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.
  • Perform visual inspection of overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities and equipment.
  • Compile field data collection and prepare minor work orders.
  • Maintain reports of distribution equipment.
  • Provide assistance with storm damage assessments to overhead and underground distribution structures and equipment.

Essential Skills

  • High school graduate with field experience or associate degree in AutoCAD or engineering technology.
  • Familiarity with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) or utility experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of computers and software applications, particularly MS Office products.
  • Clean and valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel primarily regionally to utility client territories during the business day, with some overnight travel expected.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Drafting experience is beneficial.
  • Experience with electrical equipment and wiring.
  • Knowledge of data handling and work orders.
  • Comfortable with travel to other territories for up to 2 weeks on site when required.

Work Environment

The work environment includes both office and travel components. Employees have the flexibility to work four days at 10 hours a day from Monday to Thursday. This position requires travel, primarily regional, with some overnight travel expected to surrounding utility territories.
