Job Description
The Saw Operator sets up and operates industrial saws to cut metal materials to precise specifications, ensuring high-quality output in a fast-paced production environment. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, accurate measurement skills, and safe handling of materials and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operate industrial saws, including band saws, cold saws, and similar cutting equipment, to cut metal materials to required specifications.
- Measure, mark, and verify material dimensions before and after cutting using tape measures and other measuring tools.
- Read and interpret work orders, job travelers, and basic drawings to determine cutting requirements and priorities.
- Load and unload raw materials onto and from saws and workstations efficiently and safely.
- Inspect cut materials for dimensional accuracy, quality, and surface condition, and identify any defects or nonconformities.
- Use hand tools and power tools to support cutting, trimming, and finishing tasks as needed.
- Perform basic machine operation tasks, including setup, adjustments, and routine checks on saws and related equipment.
- Handle heavy lifting of materials and components in a safe and controlled manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient production.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when operating saws, handling materials, and using tools.
- Hands-on experience operating industrial saws such as band saws, cold saws, or similar cutting equipment.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to accurately measure, mark, and verify material dimensions using a tape measure and related tools.
- Mechanical aptitude and a mechanically inclined mindset for working with machines and equipment.
- Experience with general machine operation in a production setting.
- Capability to perform heavy lifting safely as part of daily work duties.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, job travelers, and basic drawings.
- Attention to detail for inspecting cut materials for accuracy, quality, and surface condition.
- Previous experience with trimming molded plastic parts is preferred.
- Prior experience operating molding equipment is desirable.
- Quality control experience in a manufacturing or production environment is desirable.
- Experience with bandsaw operation in a production setting is a plus.

Work Environment
The role is based in a clean production facility that is not climate controlled. Temperatures can become very hot in the summer due to operating ovens and equipment, so comfort with working in warm conditions is important. The environment involves regular use of industrial saws, hand tools, power tools, and other production machinery, along with handling and lifting materials throughout the shift.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
