Job Description
The Maintenance Technician ensures that all production machinery operates safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role focuses on both mechanical and electrical maintenance, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and 480V systems, while performing troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on conveyors, cutting equipment, pumps, and packaging machinery in a food production environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production machinery, including conveyors, cutting equipment, pumps, and packaging equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues involving hydraulics and pneumatics to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Perform electrical maintenance and troubleshooting on systems operating at 480V, including 3-phase motors and related components.
- Complete scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on all assigned equipment and accurately document work performed.
- Inspect machinery regularly to identify potential failures and recommend corrective actions before breakdowns occur.
- Support packaging operations by ensuring packaging machines run efficiently and meet production and quality requirements.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and adhere to all FDA-regulated procedures and plant safety standards.
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to prioritize maintenance activities and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Use mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to quickly identify root causes of equipment failures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tools and parts, in accordance with facility guidelines.
- At least 2+ years of experience in maintenance, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics on the mechanical side of machinery.
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining conveyor systems and related components.
- Ability to perform electrical work on 480V systems and 3-phase motors.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on production equipment.
- Familiarity with packaging machines and packaging maintenance.
- Knowledge of and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines.
- Ability to work mostly six days per week and every other weekend as needed.
- Capability to work in a cold environment (approximately 36°F) for the duration of the shift.
- PLC experience is a plus but not required.
- Experience working in an FDA-regulated or food production environment is highly beneficial.
- Comfort working with cutting, cleaning, and packaging equipment for produce.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with maintenance, production, and supervisory staff.
- Willingness to wear provided uniforms and follow facility hygiene and safety standards.

Work Environment
This is a full-time role on the day shift, with two openings available. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the expectation to work every other weekend and typically a six-day workweek (approximately 50–58 hours weekly). The facility cuts, cleans, and packages produce, so the production environment is maintained at approximately 36°F year-round. The site operates under FDA regulations and follows strict GMP guidelines, requiring consistent adherence to hygiene, safety, and cleanliness standards. Work involves regular interaction with conveyors, cutting equipment, pumps, and packaging machinery, as well as 480V electrical systems and 3-phase motors. Uniforms are provided after 90 days, and employees are expected to follow the company’s dress code and personal protective equipment requirements appropriate for a cold, food-processing environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smyrna, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.
