Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist V to join our team. You will start your day by opening the clinic at 7:30 am to accommodate any early arrivals. You will work independently until the clinic officially opens at 8 am, at which point you will be joined by two other phlebotomists. This part-time position requires you to work from 7:30 am to 2 pm, with the option to extend your hours with an hour or half-hour lunch.


Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and handle decontamination.
  • Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Understand all physicians' orders completely.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Ensure 100% accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
  • Follow specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of phlebotomy experience.
