CNC Horizontal Mill Machinist
Job Description
Operate a Horizontal CNC Mill to machine large engines, compressor components, and heavy industrial parts. This role requires precision and attention to detail, ensuring that all specifications and tolerances are met in the machining process.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work.
- Perform dimensional layout and in-process inspections to confirm conformance to prints and routing instructions; complete required documentation.
- Align and secure large castings or forgings using CNC Mill operations.
- Monitor feed and speed of machines during the machining process and adjust offsets as necessary.
- Identify surface finishes and ensure required tolerances are achieved on large diameter parts.
- Deburr and stamp parts to specifications.
- Operate overhead cranes and lifting devices safely to move heavy materials.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including chip removal and housekeeping.
- Operate equipment independently with little to no guidance, including setup.
- Use advanced trade mathematics, complicated drawings, specifications, and precision measuring instruments.
- Observe all PPE requirements and safety rules, including machining guards and safe lifting techniques.
- Complete all other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years' experience with Horizontal CNC Mill.
- 5+ years' experience in machining large parts.
- Ability to maintain tolerances of +/- .0005.
- Proficient in using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and depth measuring equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with horizontal lathe, blueprint, G code, M code, and Fanuc controls.
- Experience in machine setup and editing programs.
- Familiarity with tight tolerances and use of precision measuring instruments like micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges.
- Experience using overhead cranes for heavy material handling.

Work Environment
This position is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing facility, working the 2nd shift from Monday to Friday, 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM/1:30 AM. Overtime and weekend work may be required, averaging 45-55 hours per week.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.00/hr.
