Job Title: Test Development Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Test Development Engineer who is fully qualified to execute job responsibilities independently, within established professional standards. The role involves moderately complex tasks requiring judgment to complete assignments independently and determine the best methods for completion. Your contributions will significantly impact the division's operations, schedules, and performance goals. You will build vital internal and external relationships to facilitate the achievement of role accountabilities.
Responsibilities
- Work independently to develop technical solutions in limited technical fields supporting common segments/technologies.
- Solve complex problems in collaboration with a team of engineers.
- Lead projects, managing communication with team members, suppliers, and both internal and external customers.
- Participate in technical discussions with customers.
- Provide high-level test hardware and software solution architecture.
- Review equipment data sheets and select appropriate equipment based on requirements.
- Support the creation of structural or functional test strategies and test plans to meet project goals.
- Develop technical proposals with costed BOM and hours estimates.
- Research and comprehend relevant product technologies.
- Participate in all areas of the manufacturing test development process, including hardware selection, procurement, test code development, integration, validation, qualification, and installation support.
- Collaborate with customer product design teams, providing feedback on product testability, test coverage, diagnosability, reparability, firmware/diagnostics, and user experience.
- Develop production-level manufacturing test strategies and requirements based on product design specifications.
- Document manufacturing test plans.
- Design and develop test solutions, including hardware and software elements.
- Develop new test code and tools for manufacturing test automation.
- Integrate new tools and custom code for product integration, qualification, and installation.
- Debug tester issues using design of experiments and failure analysis methodologies.
- Execute validation and qualification requirements using statistical and industry methods.
- Stabilize test solutions for manufacturing, focusing on failure analysis, cycle time, test yield optimizations, and false failure reductions.
- Maintain test equipment, fixtures, and specialized tools for manufacturing test automation.
- Stay up-to-date with industry knowledge and regulations.
- Apply continuous improvement mindset to all aspects of the development process.
- Travel occasionally to overseas locations (Mexico, Asia, EU).
Essential Skills
- Engineering foundation competencies.
- Knowledge of design processes for systems and printed circuit boards.
- Understanding of systems and printed circuit board manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Knowledge of industry and quality standards.
- Ability to evaluate, diagnose, and troubleshoot problems.
- Knowledge of materials and components used in the construction of systems and printed circuit boards.
- Knowledge of testing software, processes, methodologies, and failure analysis.
- Familiarity with IT platforms, networking, database design, and programming languages.
- Minimum 1-2 years of practical software development experience in a Linux environment with Python.
- Minimum 1-2 years of practical experience using GIT in a Linux environment.
- Experience in software design, development, debug, and release.
- Project leadership and management skills.
- Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Javascript, HTML, XML, TCL, Bash Scripting, MS Visual Studio .NET (C#, VB, ASP), SQL (preferred).
- Hardware development, integration, and qualification experience (preferred).
- Instrumentation automation, driver development (preferred).
- Board design and layout experience (asset).
- Experience in Hyperscale, Cloud Connectivity, and/or DataCenter industry (preferred).
- Experience in Aerospace & Defense and/or Healthcare industry (asset).
- Experience with National Instruments LabView and TestStand (asset).
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or related fields.
Work Environment
The work environment includes lab work involving assembling test equipment, racks of instruments, running cables, wiring, and PCB assembly. It is a normal office environment with exposure to manufacturing settings. The role may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or detailed data. Repetitive manual movements such as data entry and using a computer mouse are frequently required. Occasional travel may be required within the US, Canada, Mexico, Asia, and the EU. The role is fast-paced with a focus on execution in a high-volume environment. A continuous improvement mindset is encouraged, and cultural fit includes being a good communicator and asking the right questions.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richardson, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.00 - $45.00/hr.
