Job Title: Production Lead
Job Description
The Production Lead directs and supports production teams to achieve daily, weekly, monthly, and annual output goals by effectively using an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, including advanced planning and scheduling tools. This role coordinates closely with planning, inventory control, supply chain, and the machine shop to drive on-time completion, maintain high quality standards, and foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and cross-training on the production floor.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead the daily activities of production teams to meet quantity, quality, and on-time delivery goals.
- Follow production planning order priorities and escalate scheduling issues to the Production Manager as needed.
- Use Factory Pulse and other technology tools to maintain accurate and up-to-date production data.
- Control the flow of materials on the production floor to meet production and quality requirements.
- Collaborate with the Production Manager and Planning to accommodate expedited orders and achieve required ship dates.
- Request necessary materials for open jobs through the computerized system to ensure continuous workflow.
- Enter non-conforming material information into the system to support the quality department in tracking and resolving quality concerns.
- Respond promptly to Andon lights to minimize production downtime and quickly address issues on the line.
- Update performance metrics and lead daily Gemba Board meetings to review progress and drive accountability.
- Build team capabilities by promoting cross-training, motivating team members, mentoring, evaluating performance, and recognizing contributions.
- Hold team members accountable to performance requirements and provide coaching under the direction of the Production Manager.
- Create and maintain a monthly 5S schedule to support workplace organization and efficiency.
- Fill in for team members when they are absent or away from the line to maintain production continuity.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of time and attendance for all team members.
- Participate in interviewing, hiring processes, and performance reviews for contract labor and production team members.
- Promote a safe work environment and ensure that all safety rules and procedures are followed.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, reduce waste, and apply LEAN concepts to daily operations.
- Collaborate with the Lean Process Team to implement line improvements and process enhancements.
- Effectively implement production changes for existing or new products on the line.
- Ensure training in at least three different work centers to provide coverage when other leads are absent.
- Cover select responsibilities of the Production Manager when they are out, including attending daily operations meetings and collaborating with Planning to manage expedite orders.
- Adhere to all labeling and documentation requirements to maintain compliance and traceability.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in support of production and assembly activities.
- Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to guide assembly and production tasks.
- Support assessment testing of team members as administered by the Production Group Lead.
- Demonstrate consistent attendance, a positive attitude, and a strong work history, and support team members in doing the same.
- Assist where needed across the facility, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to help in various workstations and lines.
Essential Skills
- Experience leading a production team of 10 or more people.
- At least 1 year of assembly experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
- Experience using hand tools such as calipers and micrometers.
- Ability to assemble products using blueprints or detailed work instructions.
- Proficiency with ERP software, preferably including Syteline APS Infinite and Finite.
- Basic skills in Microsoft Excel for tracking and reporting production data.
- Strong production team leadership skills with a focus on accountability and performance.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Solid understanding of LEAN process principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to address production and quality issues effectively.
- Strong collaborative and partnering skills to work with planning, inventory, supply chain, and other departments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent).
- At least 3 years of manufacturing experience.
- At least 1 year of manufacturing experience in a leadership role.
- Ability to read, speak, and write English.
- Ability to stand and walk frequently throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally and handle 15–45 pounds as needed.
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, twist/turn, kneel, squat, crawl, and reach outward or above the shoulder for up to 10 hours per shift.
- Repetitive use of hands and fingers for assembly and tool use.
- Depth perception and the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of color.
- Commitment to ethical leadership and the ability to inspire trust within the team.
- Strong commitment to attendance, positive attitude, and maintaining a good work history.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in high-volume production environments.
- Familiarity with Factory Pulse or similar production monitoring systems.
- Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical assemblies in a manufacturing setting.
- Comfort working in an industrial environment with multiple workstations and production lines.
- Experience supporting or participating in LEAN initiatives, 5S programs, and continuous improvement projects.
- Ability to lead and participate in Gemba Board meetings and performance metric reviews.
- Experience collaborating with a Lean Process Team to implement line improvements.
- Previous responsibility for interviewing, hiring, and reviewing performance for production or contract labor staff.
- Demonstrated ability to move between different departments or work centers as business needs change.
- Willingness to support assessment testing and training for production team members.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support expedited orders in coordination with Planning and Production leadership.

Work Environment
The role is based in a climate-controlled industrial facility that remains comfortable in both winter and summer. The production floor includes approximately 10 workstations arranged in line configurations with 3–4 team members per line and a medium-sized warehouse area. The environment is fully enclosed, with two open shipping and receiving doors located on the far side of the warehouse floor, and is described as a clean, well-maintained, and visually appealing place to work. You will stand for most or all of the shift and work hands-on with assembly tasks, hand tools, and power tools in a line-based production setting. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The dress code includes a plain black t-shirt (provided after the first few weeks), jeans in blue, khaki, or black, and tennis shoes. The environment supports LEAN practices, 5S organization, and the use of ERP and production monitoring systems such as Factory Pulse, and encourages flexibility to move around the facility and assist where needed.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
