Job Summary:
We are seeking an expert-level Lead Software Systems Engineer to drive the design, development, and integration of software systems for both military and commercial aircraft platforms. This role is pivotal in translating customer needs into robust, testable system requirements and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, mission-critical software solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the software architecture and design for complex aerospace systems.
- Translate customer requirements into clear, testable, and traceable system specifications.
- Manage and track system and software requirements throughout the entire product lifecycle.
- Develop, maintain, and document software in compliance with aerospace standards and configuration control.
- Oversee and guide subcontractors, ensuring adherence to coding standards and quality benchmarks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, providing timely support to internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies to enhance system performance and reliability.
- Conduct trade studies and technical evaluations to select optimal software solutions.
- Author and review technical documentation, including interface control documents, design descriptions, and user manuals.
- Approve software designs and ensure alignment with system-level requirements.
- Design and execute verification and validation (V&V) tests to ensure software functionality and compliance.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven expertise in software design and systems engineering within the aerospace or defense industry.
- Proficiency in Java, C++, and Python.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS and Jama.
- Strong understanding of product lifecycle management and configuration control.
- Active or eligible for security clearance.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on aircraft systems (avionics, flight control, mission systems).
- Background in military or commercial aerospace programs.
- Knowledge of safety-critical software standards (e.g., DO-178C).
