Job Description
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting issues, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures while ensuring a courteous interaction with patients.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
- Update patient information and ensure proper decontamination processes are followed.
- Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate technique using straight and/or butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
- Place samples in appropriate collection containers and accurately label them.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years of experience in phlebotomy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in specimen collection and venipuncture techniques.
- Ability to follow specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Waco, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.80/hr.
