Job Title: Accountant III

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Accountant III to join our dynamic team. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies by developing, preparing, and analyzing financial and operational data. You will work closely with the corporate accounting and finance team to align operations and ensure accurate financial reporting.



Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Accounting Management and assist other team members in the monthly close and reporting processes.
  • Prepare month-end close and ad hoc journal entries, calculations, analysis, and reporting related to complex GAAP accounting transactions.
  • Reconcile complex general ledger accounts, extensively research variances, and correct account discrepancies where necessary.
  • Analyze general ledger accounts to ensure proper accounting treatment and necessary monthly accrual adjustments are applied.
  • Exercise good judgment and strong professional skills in the preparation of accounting records and reporting consistent with GAAP, standard methodologies, and company policies.
  • Embrace teamwork while also working independently; serve as a resource and subject matter expert to other team members.
  • Perform various accounts payable functions.
  • Assist with monthly financial statement preparation, including analysis of financial results and statements of cash flows.
  • Review financial results in comparison to both historical and expected figures, and conduct in-depth variance analysis.
  • Assist in the creation and preparation of management reports and run ad hoc calculations and analysis when requested.
  • Exhibit advanced problem-solving and resolution skills within corporate standards.
  • Assist with various accounting projects; document, report, and follow through on recommendations from projects.
  • Interact with various teams on project initiatives and accounting-related items.
  • Assist with the preparation of audited financial statements, footnotes, and other external periodic reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, ALCO reporting, and regulatory reporting.



Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration with an emphasis in accounting, CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of financial accounting experience or 2+ years of public accounting experience.
  • Understanding of basic accounting concepts and strong knowledge of GAAP.
  • Ability to work and deliver under deadline constraints and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Effective interaction with various divisions and levels of management throughout the company.
  • Excellent computer and technology skills including MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.


Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with complex reconciliations and a banking background is a plus.
  • Knowledge of what auditors are looking for.
  • Experience with Fiserv for general ledger and deposits.
  • Familiarity with Workday and transitions to new systems.
  • Experience with Excel for investments and cash management.


Work Environment

The work schedule includes remote work on Mondays and Fridays, with flexibility as needed. Business hours are typically 40-45 hours per week, with potential for additional hours during month-end and quarter-end close periods. The team values flexibility for personal commitments. The team comprises seven members, most located in Lincoln, NE, with a preference for an additional team member in Utah to complement the existing team structure.
