Job Title: Non-Destructive Technician
Job Description
Level II Technicians/Inspectors will work on various job sites, including refineries, pipelines, and structural construction sites, to inspect and test different materials. They will utilize methods such as Radiographic Testing (RT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT). Each technician must be familiar with the scope and limitations of the utilized NDT methods and provide on-the-job training and guidance to assistants and Level I Technicians.
Responsibilities
- Set up and calibrate nondestructive testing equipment.
- Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using NDT methods of inspection.
- Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations.
- Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results using radiographs, cathode ray tube (CRT) or digital readouts, conductivity meters, and visual indicators.
- Organize and report test results.
- Perform specialized inspections.
- Instruct and supervise others as needed.
- Perform other job-related tasks as assigned by management.
Essential Skills
- Certified Level II RT (SNT-TC-1A).
- Minimum 1 year of working experience within NDT.
- Experience with industry standards such as NAS 410 and/or CP-189.
- Technical experience in NDT methods and procedures.
- Ability to effectively perform assigned NDT tasks and interpret results of inspections.
- Knowledge of NDT equipment.
- Experience in report writing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Additional Level II certifications in RT, MT, PT, UT, and CR are preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, with some college education preferred.
Work Environment
This role requires travel within Utah, with paid travel time to each site. Work hours can range from 8-10 hours per day depending on the job. Some projects may last a single day, while others may span several months. Workers will coordinate job sites with leadership in advance. The work environment includes blue-collar settings, demanding a resilient personality to handle tough conditions. Typical workweeks are Monday through Friday, with overtime opportunities available based on the job site.
