Job Description
Join an innovative molecular R&D instrument development group as a Level 4 Engineer. This high-visibility role involves working on a dynamic and early-stage team dedicated to baselining and identifying failure modes on complex electromechanical diagnostic devices.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of test approaches and determine applicable standards in a largely undefined testing landscape.
- Independently identify industry standards, such as MIL STD 810, ASTM, and ISTA, to create comprehensive test protocols from scratch.
- Design and analyze custom test fixtures and tooling using SolidWorks.
- Conduct hands-on environmental and destructive testing, including thermal cycling, altitude, shock, vibration, and ingress protection.
- Perform preliminary mechanical and electrical investigations into failure modes and present technical findings to program leadership.
- A Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required.
- At least 10 years of experience in hardware testing and reliability engineering.
- High proficiency in SolidWorks for the design and analysis of test fixtures.
- Hands-on experience in environmental and destructive testing.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis on mechanical and electrical failure modes.
- Experience in medical device, automotive, aerospace, or defense industries.
- Familiarity with Lua scripting or basic programming for modifying test scripts.
- Experience with LabVIEW and Helix ALM or other PLM platforms.
- Knowledge of EMC or EMI testing and IP ingress testing for dust and water.
- Understanding of reliability statistics such as HALT, HASS, or MTBF.
Work within a small, collaborative R&D engineering team in Salt Lake City. The role involves a mix of hands-on bench testing in a lab environment and desk work developing protocols, analyzing data, and building presentations. Expect to be on your feet regularly in the lab. The position follows a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off, with core hours between 6:30 AM and 6:00 PM. The dress code is typical R&D engineering casual, suitable for lab and shop floor work. A laptop is provided by the client. The initial contract is for 11 months, with potential extensions based on performance and program needs. Salt Lake City offers a lower cost of living and access to world-class outdoor recreation.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $58.00 - $75.00/hr.
