Job Description
The Senior Civil Engineer plays a pivotal role in the planning, design, and permitting of civil engineering, land development, and infrastructure projects. This position involves site/civil engineering design for diverse projects such as mixed-use developments, shopping centers, residential areas, higher education institutions, federal projects, and other exciting land development ventures.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and modification of engineering documents, including reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, and design plans, using engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.) and equipment.
- Design and oversee site layout, grading, drainage, infrastructure, erosion, and sediment control from concept through completion.
- Conduct storm water management design, hydrologic/hydraulic analysis, and SWPPP preparation.
- Demonstrate experience in all aspects of land development engineering, including the integration of geotechnical and environmental engineering.
- Perform other duties as requested.
- Familiarity with current local, state, and federal land use permitting is a plus.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- 3-5+ years of professional civil engineering experience within site/civil design, including land development, stormwater management, site grading, erosion and sediment control, and site planning.
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) Certification required; PE License preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Local and related civil engineering experience in land development projects, ideally in Northern VA/DC, open to MD as well.
- Ability to work on both small and large projects.
- Technical and proposal writing experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with comfort in working with clients and attending client meetings.
Work Environment
The work environment offers hybrid flexibility, typically operating with 2-3 days in the office each week. The Senior Civil Engineer will report to the Arlington, VA office, with the option to work from the newly opened Washington, DC office.
