Job Title: Survey Party Chief
Job Description
The Survey Party Chief will report to the Chantilly, VA office each morning to meet with the Field Coordinator or Survey Project Manager. You will then take a company vehicle to various sites. Typical working hours are from 6 am to 3 pm.
Responsibilities
- Supervise various types of surveys, including Boundary Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Construction Surveys, ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, and more, ensuring professional and efficient operations.
- Research and analyze available information and data affecting proposed survey projects from various sources and organize the required work to develop additional information.
- Identify and address any problems encountered in the field, notifying the office and reporting conflicting issues as they occur.
- Understand the scope of work required before going to the work site and debrief the Field Coordinator and Office Staff at the end of each day regarding the work completed and the project’s status.
- Utilize robotic and GPS equipment to perform fieldwork efficiently, train new field staff on its operation and maintenance, and assist in maintaining and inventorying the field truck, survey equipment, and supplies.
- Train the survey crew in technical survey and safety methods, techniques, and procedures.
- Perform survey calculations before and after survey projects.
- Implement necessary work-site safety and traffic control procedures to ensure the safety of survey crews.
- Assign work to and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
- Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches of work performed and data secured in manual logs, records, and forms, as well as in computer-based systems.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of experience in land surveying, including topographic surveys, boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, as-builts, and construction surveying.
- Experience with surveying equipment such as Trimble, Total Station, Data Collectors, Leica, Magnetic Locators, etc.
- Valid driver's license.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to travel 20% as needed (travel expenses covered).
- Experience in conducting land surveys of roads, bridges, and building sites.
- Ability to perform survey calculations and maintain accurate field records manually and electronically.
- Ability to pass drug checks.
Work Environment
The work environment includes a dynamic workshare system that may require temporary assignments to projects in other offices, possibly requiring travel. While personal schedules are considered, travel may be unexpected and include weekend stays. The position requires willingness and ability to travel throughout Virginia and surrounding states and work overtime as needed. Offices are located in Virginia, Maryland, and Florida.
